Former MK Dons defender Sam Sherring signs deal with Rochdale

Defender Sam Sherring has joined Rochdale in his first move after leaving MK Dons.

The 26-year-old left MK Dons on a free transfer at the end of last season and has signed a one-year deal to join the League 2 newboys, who are now managed by former Dons assistant head coach Ian Watson.

Sherring joined the Dons in 2024 from Northampton but struggled with injury, illness and the form of others, making just 13 appearances in all competitions and spending the second half of last season out on loan with Cheltenham.

The deal makes Sherring the second former Dons defender to join Dale after leaving Stadium MK in the summer, with Laurence Maguire having been confirmed as making the move earlier this month.

Speaking to the official Rochdale website, Watson said he was happy to bring the defender to the club as they prepare for their return to the fourth tier.

He said, “We’re really pleased to get Sam in.

“He’s got a lot of experience in League One and Two and he’ll offer us a lot of strength in that area.

“Sam is a really good defender, who wants to learn and develop, and will give us something different in the backline.”
