Derelict building fire 24th April 2026

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a fire at a derelict building, the Rockingham Arms public house in Corby, shortly before 8pm on Friday, April 24.

On arrival, crews from Corby, Kettering, Rothwell, Mereway, Oundle, Raunds and Moulton found a three‑storey derelict building fully involved in fire. The fire is believed to have started on the first floor before spreading to the roof.

Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, used two 45mm jets, hose reel jets and a turntable ladder to tackle the fire. Thermal imaging cameras were used to scan the building and monitor hotspots, enabling crews to damp down affected areas.

Gas and electricity supplies to the site were isolated by Cadent and National Grid, and assistance was provided by a Derbyshire Fire Investigation dog, a Leicestershire Fire Investigation Officer and a Leicestershire aeriDerelical ladder platform, which was used as an observation platform. A police drone was also in attendance.

The most likely cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate. The incident has been handed over to Northamptonshire Police, who are maintaining a scene guard, and the fire investigation remains ongoing as they wait for a structural engineer.
