Fire Service tackles 28 deliberate fires in Northamptonshire since start of April

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service has attended 28 deliberate fires since the beginning of April.

On one occasion on Wednesday (April 8), firefighters from Corby, Oundle and Desborough tackled five fires in Priors Hall Park in Corby that had all been started deliberately shortly after 8:30pm.

Crews used a hose-reel jet, beaters and wildfire backpacks to put out the fires that burnt trees, shrubbery and grass in the park. A drone was also used to search for more potential fires in the area and Northamptonshire Police were in attendance.

As we go into the final weekend of the Easter holidays and into the warmer months, parents are being asked to speak to their children on the risks of starting fires and be aware of the signs of arson.

Arson is a serious crime. Setting fires can cause severe damage to property, harm wildlife, and most importantly, put lives at risk.

Setting fires deliberately can also have an impact on our resources, taking crews away from helping members of the public that need them.

If you notice your child smelling of smoke or talking about starting fires, please speak with them about the serious consequences. Explain that arson can lead to criminal records, heavy fines, or even imprisonment.
