Have your say: SEND Strategy survey extended to hear more voices

Partners, families, children and young people across West Northamptonshire are being encouraged to take part in a set of surveys shaping the area’s next Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Strategy – with the deadline now extended to give more people the chance to have their say.

The surveys, which originally closed in early May, will now remain open until Wednesday 17 June 2026 to help capture a wider range of views from across the community.

As the current 2023–2026 SEND & Alternative Provision Strategy enters its final year, West Northamptonshire Council and the wider SEND Partnership are building on progress already made across education, health, care and community support. An update on achievements to date is available on the Council’s website.

Work is now underway to develop a new SEND Strategy, aligned with the national Every Child Achieving and Thriving plan. Hearing directly from children and young people, families, professionals and partners is essential to ensuring the next strategy reflects local needs, experiences and priorities.

Surveys open until 17 June 2026
Two surveys are available:

• Survey for children and young people
• Survey for families and professionals 

Each survey takes around 10–15 minutes to complete. Responses are anonymous unless participants choose to provide contact details.

Why your views matter
Feedback will play a vital role in shaping the next SEND Strategy. It will be used to:

• identify key themes and challenges affecting children and young people with SEND
• inform co-production workshops with families, young people and practitioners
• set long-term priorities across education, health, specialist support and community inclusion
• ensure lived experience is central to future planning and decision-making

West Northamptonshire Council is encouraging everyone who supports or works with children and young people, as well as families themselves, to take part and share the survey widely. Extending the deadline means there is still time to get involved and help shape services for the future.
