Residents in recovery from alcohol and drug use were supported to improve their health and wellbeing at a recent event held at Inspire in Northampton. Inspire is the alcohol and drug service for adults and young people across West Northamptonshire.
Delivered by West Northamptonshire Council’s Public Health teams, the event brought together 12 local services in a safe and familiar setting, giving attendees access to health checks, advice and support all in one place. People were able to access services including NHS Health Checks, liver screening, stop smoking referrals and sexual health testing.
The event also provided an opportunity for services to work more closely together and explore future collaboration, helping to strengthen support for some of the area’s most vulnerable residents.
Cllr Laura Couse, Cabinet Member for Adult Care and Public Health, who attended the event, said: “It was great to see so many services coming together to support people in recovery in such a welcoming and accessible way. The Inspire team have created a friendly, reassuring and non-judgemental environment where people feel safe and supported in their journey of recovery. Events like this make a real difference by helping people take positive steps to improve their health and wellbeing, while also connecting them with the right support at the right time.”
Further health and wellbeing events are already planned, including a session for people aged 55 and over at Daventry Leisure Centre on 23 July, 10am-2pm and a healthcare roadshow for all ages at Duston Community Centre on 16 September, 10-2pm.
