Masterplans unveiled to shape the future of Northampton and Daventry town centres

Two bold long-term visions for regenerating and investing in Northampton and Daventry town centres are due to be discussed by councillors next week.

At their meeting on Tuesday, (10 November) West Northamptonshire Council’s Cabinet will consider two fresh masterplans which set out how partners will work together to make both town centres more attractive and vibrant.

Improvements to public spaces, support for leisure and cultural activities, and opportunities to bring new investment are at the heart of the proposals, which build on extensive public consultation and engagement with residents, businesses and stakeholders.

The new masterplans for Daventry and Northampton are the first phase of a fresh focus by WNC into driving forward joint development and investment into its four market towns, with future plans for Towcester and Brackley also set to be progressed in the future.

For Northampton, the new masterplan builds on the regeneration and key development schemes already taking place such as Greyfriars and Four Waterside and Marefair. The focus is on creating a walkable and well-connected town, delivering new neighbourhoods, supporting business growth and celebrating culture and heritage.

The Daventry Town Centre Masterplan focuses on the town's strengths while setting out ideas to attract more people into the town centre. Proposals include improvements to public spaces, leisure facilities, walking and cycling links, support for independent businesses and better connections to Daventry Country Park.

A key feature of the Daventry masterplan is the proposed destination play area and improved recreation facilities at New Street Recreation Ground, responding directly to consultation feedback from local families and young people and providing a significant new attraction for the town.

Cllr Kamala Guliyeva, Cabinet Member for Local Economy, Culture and Leisure, said: “Northampton and Daventry are both distinctive places with rich histories and exciting futures. These masterplans, shaped with the feedback of our partners and residents, help us build on those strengths, creating town centres that are welcoming, sustainable and fit for future generations.

"While the plans don't commit us to specific projects at this stage, they provide a clear roadmap for future opportunities and will help us attract investment that foster opportunity, strengthen local businesses, supports jobs and thriving communities.

“This is the beginning of a renewed focus on all four of our unique market towns, and by setting out clear ambitions for Daventry and Northampton now, we are creating a framework that will help drive future development and investment across the area, with proposals for Towcester and Brackley due to follow in the future.”

The Council will now progress design plans and explore funding opportunities while continuing to work with communities, stakeholders and delivery partners to bring forward priority projects across both town centres.

Both masterplans can be viewed here: on the agenda for Cabinet on Tuesday 10 November 2026, 6.00 pm.
