Residents across West Northamptonshire are being encouraged to explore the area’s scenic cycling routes through a brand new YouTube channel developed in partnership with British Cycling.
The channel features a series of guided rides, highlighting accessible routes, local landmarks and the many places to discover by bike. The videos aim to inspire people of all ages and abilities - whether they’re completely new to cycling or simply looking for fresh routes to enjoy.
This initiative forms part of the wider collaboration between West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) and British Cycling, which is focused on expanding grassroots cycling and supporting more people to experience the health, wellbeing and environmental benefits of travelling by bike. Working with local clubs, volunteers, schools, workplaces and community organisations, the programme promotes inclusive opportunities that make cycling an everyday, accessible activity.
In addition to the new YouTube channel, residents can take part in a growing programme of free, locally led cycling activities delivered through British Cycling’s Let’s Ride initiative. A wide range of guided rides, suitable for different ages and abilities, are available to book online, including Curry & Drink Social and Steady Country Park and River Ride.
These rides offer opportunities to explore local cycle paths, parks and quieter roads in a friendly, supportive environment. Sessions include easy going social rides, family friendly introductions, women only Breeze rides, steady group rides, and other community led activities designed to help people build confidence and enjoy cycling more regularly. Browse all upcoming local rides using the Let’s Ride finder tool on the Let’s Ride website.
“Cycling is a fantastic way to stay active while enjoying the outdoors with friends and family. We’re fortunate to have wonderful routes across West Northamptonshire, from our historic towns to beautiful countryside.
“This new YouTube channel is a great way to showcase what’s on our doorstep and encourage more people to get out and explore by bike. Whether you’re a regular rider or just getting started, it shows how enjoyable and accessible cycling can be for everyone.”Cllr James Petter, Cabinet Member for Local Economy, Culture and Leisure at WNC
There will also be plenty of opportunities to take part in Bike Week 2026, organised nationally by Cycling UK. The annual celebration encourages people to swap short car journeys for cycling and join community rides, maintenance sessions and other events that showcase the benefits of active travel.
In addition, volunteers are being sought for a new junior cycling club launching at Delapré Abbey, to support with both committee and coaching roles. The club will aim to provide weekly sessions to help young riders aged 5+ develop their skills and confidence, including riding in on and off-road settings.
