A series of new planters have been unveiled at Castle Park, further enhancing the appearance and welcoming atmosphere of one of the town centre’s newest public spaces.
Delivered by West Northamptonshire Council and supported with £2,000 of funding from e-scooter company Voi secured by Northampton Town Centre BID, the planting scheme adds seasonal colour and greenery to the park, creating an inviting environment for residents and visitors alike.
The work has been carried out by Friends of Castle Park Planters who will be responsible for maintaining the planters. The funds will be used to purchase tools, peat-free compost and plants.
Local charities Right Resolution CIC, The Black History Association, Spring Charity, The McCarthy Dixon Foundation, local community NHS workers and Springs Family Centre will all benefit from the planters.
The group works together, helping each other with watering and weeding, while users of the charities are benefitting from the therapeutic benefits that gardening and growing plants provides.
Mark Mullen, Chief Operating Officer of Northampton Town Centre BID, said: “These new planters are a simple but highly effective way of enhancing the look and feel of Castle Park. We are grateful to Voi for supporting this project, which will help ensure the park remains an attractive and enjoyable space for everyone who visits.”
Created on the historic site of Northampton Castle, Castle Park has transformed a former car park into a vibrant community space that celebrates the town’s rich heritage while providing a welcoming environment for families, residents and visitors alike.
Since opening, the park has become a popular destination, with features including heritage storytelling poles, community planting areas and attractive landscaping that bring Northampton’s history to life and create opportunities for people to relax, explore and connect with the local community.
Councillor Kamala Guliyeva, Cabinet Member for Local Economy, Culture and Leisure at West Northamptonshire Council, said: “Castle Park has become an important green space in the heart of Northampton, providing a welcoming place for residents, visitors and community groups to come together.
“These new planters not only enhance the park’s appearance but also support the fantastic work being carried out by local volunteers and charities who help care for the space.
“We are grateful to Northampton Town Centre BID, Voi and the Friends of Castle Park Planters for their support in helping to make Castle Park an even more attractive and vibrant place for everyone to enjoy.”
The initiative reflects a shared commitment to improving the town centre and encouraging people to spend time in this important heritage setting.
Alex Langlands, senior market development manager at Voi, said: “We are delighted to support this improvement at Castle Park. As a sustainable transport provider, we are passionate about helping to create greener, more vibrant public spaces that benefit local communities.”
