Plans for continued support following Deafconnect’s closure

West Northamptonshire Council is working closely with North Northamptonshire Council to ensure that a new information and advice service is in place from April 2026 when Deafconnect closes at the end of March 2026. The aim is to maintain ongoing support for deaf residents across the county.

DeafConnect, which provides important support to deaf, deafened, hard of hearing and deafblind people across Northamptonshire has confirmed that its financial situation is more difficult than previously anticipated, meaning it cannot continue operating beyond 31 March. Until then, services will remain available on an appointment-only basis.

North Northamptonshire Council, which manages the contract on behalf of both authorities, has already begun discussions with a number of organisations about delivering a replacement service and has received several initial expressions of interest.

Local Deaf residents have also been actively involved in early engagement. Their insight and lived experience will play a key role in shaping how future services are designed and delivered.

Cllr Laura Couse, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Adult Care at West Northamptonshire Council, said: “The closure of Deafconnect will be felt by many in the community.  It has been a valued service for many people, so we understand this news may cause concern. We want to reassure residents that work is already underway to ensure continued access to support and we will keep people updated as this work progresses.”

Interim arrangements

There may be a short period of around three to four weeks where a full service is not available while arrangements are finalised. During this time, the council will provide guidance and signposting through its website, helping residents access alternative local, regional and national support.

Discussions are also ongoing with potential providers about whether a limited interim service could begin from 1 April.
