West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) has launched a public consultation on proposed school term dates for the 2027–28 academic year for Community and Voluntary Controlled (local authority maintained) schools.
The consultation is now live until Friday 13 February 2026, giving parents, carers, school staff and residents the opportunity to share their views before term dates are finalised.
WNC is considering two different models each with a slightly different Easter break. One model is similar to that set by North Northamptonshire Council with a two-week break leading up to the Easter weekend, and the other is similar to that set by Oxfordshire County Council with a week’s holiday either side of the Easter weekend. Our other neighbouring authorities (Leicestershire, Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes and Warwickshire) have yet to publish their dates.
Academies, Free Schools, Foundation Schools and Voluntary Aided Schools are responsible for setting their own term dates, although many choose to follow the local authority’s pattern.
Cllr Michael Stratton, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education at West Northamptonshire Council said: “Setting school term dates is something that affects every family, so it’s important our communities have the chance to share their views. We always aim to align with our neighbouring authorities where possible, but with different Easter dates proposed for 2027–28, we want to make sure residents can help shape the option that works best for them. I encourage parents, carers, school staff and anyone with an interest in education to have their say.”
Residents can view the proposed term dates and take part in the consultation by visiting the consultation on West Northamptonshire Council website.
