Anne Sacoolas pleads guilty to causing Harry Dunn's death by careless driving

Anne Sacoolas, wife of a US diplomat, has pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving, following the death of Harry Dunn in August 2019.

Anne Sacoolas, 45, appeared at the Old Bailey via video link from Washington, pleading guilty to causing 19 year old Harry Dunn's death in the process.

Harry Dunn was involved in a crash near RAF Croughton whilst riding his bike in August 2019. Sacoolas' car was on the wrong side of the road, and had been for over 20 seconds.

The former spy had initially pleaded diplomatic immunity when the incident initially occurred, having then left the UK less than three weeks later.

Sacoolas' plea was watched by around 20 members of the Dunn family, who had travelled to the US in October 2019 to lobby for help from then president Donald Trump.

Dunn's mother Charlotte Charles said "Getting to court and getting to where we are now has been the most monumental thing for me because I can talk to [Harry] now and tell him we've done it, promise complete.

"I feel I can breathe easier. I don't have that guilt on my shoulders of not having done it yet."

Sacoolas was originally charged with causing death by dangerous driving but the Crown Prosecution Service accepted her guilty plea to causing death by careless driving.

At the end of the hearing, Judge - Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb, adjourned sentencing to the end of November 2022.
