Cannabis factory found in Euston Road, Northampton

More than 170 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £170,000 have been discovered at a property in Euston Road, Northampton.

Officers from Northamptonshire Police forced entry into the address on Wednesday, July 20, after concerns were raised regarding the occupier after flies were seen inside and a strange smell was coming from the property.

Once inside the terraced house, officers discovered 176 cannabis plants in various stages of growth, spread across five rooms. The plants have been seized and the factory dismantled.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Andy Blaize said: “Firstly, I would like to thank the community who raised concerns about the welfare of the occupier, which has led to the discovery of this cannabis factory.

“People may think that the production of cannabis is a victimless crime, but what they don’t realise is those at the top of the chain exploit vulnerable people and put them to work in these factories, using them to make money with no thought for their welfare.

“Tackling and preventing drug harm in Northampton is a matter of priority for the Force and working together with our partners and communities, we will continue to disrupt the drugs supply chain.

“This case is a prime example of how we can work together with our partners and communities to tackle the issues affecting their local area and I would urge the community to keep reporting suspicious activity to us.”

In May, Chief Constable Nick Adderley launched the Force’s Matters of Priority for the next three years, and along with serious violence, serious and organised crime, violence against women and girls, drug harm was included.
