Man, 44, convicted of attempted burglary

A 44-year-old man has been convicted of an attempted burglary in Northampton.

At about 3.45pm on April 5, 2022, Percy Holland, of St George’s Street, Northampton, attempted to gain entry to a garage in Abbots Way by trying to remove securing brackets.

The occupant, who was in the garage at the time, shouted at him, causing Holland to flee the scene in his van.

He was arrested nearby a short time later with his van which turned out to be on false number plates.

After pleading guilty to attempted burglary and fraudulent use of a registration mark, he was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court last month to nine months in prison, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to pay costs totalling £456.

Lead Investigator – PC Becca Tomalin from the Force’s Burglary Team, said: “I am pleased to see Percy Holland convicted of these offences as it sends a message to offenders that we will go after those who are unsuccessful when attempting to burgle as well as those who manage to secure entry.

“Burglary has a really negative effect on victims as your home is the one place where you should feel safe. That’s why we have teams in this Force dedicated to catching burglars and we will continue working hard to bring offenders to justice.”
