Northampton burglar handed prison sentence

A 44-year-old man has been handed a prison sentence after being found guilty of a Northampton burglary.

On December 14, 2021, Anthony Lake, previously of Northampton, broke into the Kingsley Road property in the early hours of the morning by forcing entry to a patio door.

Once inside, he stole a purse containing cash and bank cards but ran away after being disturbed by the occupants who were inside the house at the time.

Following an investigation by Northamptonshire Police’s Burglary Team, Lake was identified as the offender and was arrested when officers recognised him walking through Northampton town centre.

During the arrest, he tried to run away but was caught a short time later attempting to hide.

He was later charged with one count of burglary and one count of escaping lawful custody and at Birmingham Crown Court last week (October 28), was found guilty and sentenced to four years and four months in prison.

Lead Investigator - PC Tom Hollis, said: “Anthony Lake broke into this house when the occupants were inside, causing them a huge amount of terror when they had to confront him in the early hours of the morning when it was still dark.

“He has never taken responsibility for his actions and so I am really pleased that he has been found guilty of these offences and handed a stretch in prison, meaning that the streets of Northampton are safer as a result.

“We will continue working hard to bring more people like Anthony Lake to justice, sending a clear message that crime does not pay in Northamptonshire.”
