Registered sex offender sentenced for breaching licence conditions

A 73-year-old man has been sentenced to one year and 16 weeks in prison after he breached the conditions of his sexual harm prevention order.

Michael Leonard Roberts, previously of Dallington Haven, Northampton, attended theatre productions in May 2022 which starred children aged 6-18, breaching his sexual harm prevention order.

He also used the name “Michael Fairy” when booking the shows, a further breach as he is not allowed to use any aliases.

He then failed to complete his notification requirements, asking the officers who arrested him why he had not been reminded to do so.

Following a robust investigation which involved joint working with the Probation Service, Roberts was sentenced to one year and 16 weeks in prison for all the breaches.

Lead Investigator, PC Gemma Glover from Northamptonshire Police’s MOSOVO Team, said: “Michael Roberts is a dangerous sex offender so I am pleased that he is now behind bars and away from the streets of Northamptonshire.

“Our team work really hard every day to ensure sex offenders are rigorously managed and if any breaches are identified we are very swift in dealing with them.

“I hope this case is a lesson to Michael Roberts and to other sex offenders that our processes will always find you out if you are trying to go under the radar and breach your orders. And that you will be sent to prison as a result.”
