The Knife Angel

The Knife Angel arrives in Northampton today (Friday 29/4/2022)

The Knife Angel, the National Symbol Against Violence and Aggression, will tower over the plaza outside All Saints’ Church until May 14 as a sobering reminder of knife crime’s horrific impact on individuals, families and communities.

The statue is made of over 100,000 knives collected at knife amnesties. It was made at British Ironwork Centre by artist is Alfie Bradley. See Knife Angel for more details.

Northamptonshire has a special connection to the statue – former Northamptonshire Police Chief Superintendent Dennis Murray took Northamptonshire’s knives to Oswestry and actually welded one of the knives in place.

During the visit there will be various activities to try and raise awareness and reduce violence and aggression.

A knife amnesty will also be taking place, with anyone able to dispose of blades with no questions asked and no fear of reprisals.

We are looking to sign up 10,000 Anti-Violence Ambassadors during the Angel’s visit to the county. Do come along to one of our events for free emergency first aid training sessions and find out more about becoming an Ambassador.

The Explore Northampton app (downloadable for free from the App Store and Google Play) will offer an interactive experience with the option to view the Knife Angel in augmented reality along with other activities.

The Angel will move to Corby on May 14 for two weeks, travelling through Wellingborough on its way.
