Three years and nine months in prison for Northampton burglar

A 50-year-old burglar has been sent to prison for three years and nine months after he stole handbags and jewellery from a Northampton home.

In the afternoon of October 20, 2020, Brian John Debres, previously of Northampton, used a crowbar to force his way into the Rushmere Road bungalow, damaging a lock and smashing a window in the process.

Once inside, he stole a television, a decorative landline phone, a jewellery box and handbags.

Debres was arrested the next day and subsequently charged in connection with the burglary.

At Northampton Crown Court this week (March 16), he was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison, both for this burglary and also another burglary in the Thames Valley Police area in November 2021.

Lead Investigator – PC Tom Hollis from Northamptonshire Police’s Burglary Team, said: “I welcome the sentence handed out to Brian Debres as it means that another burglar is off the streets and unable to steal the hard-earned possessions of our communities in Northamptonshire.

“Tackling burglary has been a real focus of this Force for a while now and more and more burglars are being put behind bars as a result.

“This doesn’t mean however, that we are taking our foot off the gas in any way.

“We remain as determined as ever to continue making Northamptonshire as hostile a place as possible for burglars and to bringing those who commit these crimes here, to justice.”
