The Bodyguard at Milton Keynes Theatre is a big, bold and enjoyable production that delivers an evening full of excitement, emotion and show-stopping songs. From the very first number, the energy on stage is infectious, and the audience is quickly drawn into the glitz, glamour and danger of Rachel Marron’s world.
Sidonie Smith takes on the famous role of Rachel with confidence and style. She brings warmth and depth to the character, handling the demanding vocals with ease and capturing both the superstar glamour and the vulnerability that lies beneath. Her performances of “I Have Nothing” and “Run to You” are heartfelt and beautifully delivered. Sasha Monique, as Rachel’s sister Nicki, is a real highlight — her powerful voice and soulful tone light up every scene she’s in. The chemistry between the two sisters feels natural and believable, giving the story real emotional pull.
Adam Garcia makes an excellent Frank Farmer. He plays the role with quiet strength and charm, balancing the character’s professionalism with moments of humour and tenderness. His scenes with Rachel are convincing and full of tension, and he brings a real sense of care and protection to the part. The rest of the cast provide strong support, particularly in the ensemble numbers where the choreography and energy lift the show to another level.
Visually, the production looks sleek and cinematic. The clever use of lighting, projections and sound keeps the suspense alive during the more dramatic moments, while the live band gives the music a full, rich sound that fills the theatre. The staging of the finale, complete with smoke effects and powerful imagery, makes for a striking finish that gets the audience cheering.
Packed with the hits audiences love — including “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” “I Have Nothing,” and the iconic “I Will Always Love You” — this version of The Bodyguard doesn’t just rely on nostalgia; it feels alive, confident and contemporary. It’s a polished, high-energy production with great vocals, emotional moments and just the right amount of sparkle.
Overall, this is a thoroughly enjoyable night out that celebrates the music of Whitney Houston while telling a heartfelt story of love and protection. The Bodyguard is back in Milton Keynes Theatre and it’s a triumph — stylish, emotional and full of unforgettable tunes that will have audiences singing all the way home.
