West Northamptonshire Council has expressed its great sadness at the passing of Colonel Timothy Eastwood, the Consort of the Chairman of West Northamptonshire Council.
Beloved husband of Cllr Eastwood, Chairman of the Council, Colonel Eastwood was a distinguished and highly respected figure, known for his dedication, integrity, and long service to both his local community and his country.
Colonel Eastwood, a resident of Moreton Pinkney for over 35 years and known for his roles as a church warden and parish councillor, was deeply committed to public life and a source of great support to Cllr Eastwood in her current civic role as Chairman and since becoming a WNC councillor for Rural South Northamptonshire nearly five years ago.
Colonel Eastwood was a fifth-generation Old Etonian who trained at Sandhurst and served in the army for 35 years, serving worldwide including Norway, with highlights including his time at the training college in Kabul and commanding the King’s Troops during his military career. Alongside his passion for supporting the community he was known for his love of sports, particularly horse riding and event sports, fencing and tennis.
Leading figures at the Council today paid tribute to Colonel Eastwood, who passed away peacefully at the weekend at the age of 91 following a brief illness. WNC will tomorrow lower the Council flag at its offices to half-mast as a mark of respect.
Councillor Dan Lister, Leader of the Council’s Conservative Group, said: "Tim was a true gentleman and a widely respected local figure who served both his country and his community with quiet distinction for many years. He was a man of great intellect and warmth who brought a sense of dignity to everything he did, and he remained a source of steadfast support to many of us. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and my heartfelt condolences go to Alison and the Eastwood family at this difficult time."
Councillor Mark Arnull, leader of the Council, added: “I am deeply saddened to hear about Tim and my thoughts are with Alison and their family and friends. He was a real English country gentleman who always showed unwavering loyalty, support and understanding to others. As Chairman’s consort Tim would regularly attend council meetings, community events and fundraising activities and everyone who met him warmed to him greatly. He will be missed by many.”
