Remembering former councillor Terry Gilford

West Northamptonshire Council has lowered its flags today in tribute to former Daventry councillor Terry Gilford, who has sadly passed away.

Mr Gilford served as a Conservative councillor for WNC’s Daventry West ward from May 2021 until May 2025, playing an active role in a number of committees and helped shape decisions affecting residents across the area.

A former member of the Licensing Committee, Mr Gilford later served on the Place Overview and Scrutiny Committee. He also represented WNC on the Rugby and Daventry Crematorium Joint Committee, supporting important services for local communities.

West Northamptonshire Council lowered its flags to half-mast at its offices in memory of Mr Gilford and in recognition of his commitment to public service.

Cllr Daniel Lister, Leader of the Conservative Group at West Northamptonshire Council said: "Terry cared deeply about his community and was always committed to doing his best for the people he represented. He brought a thoughtful and practical approach to his role as a councillor and made a positive contribution to the work of the Council.

"He will be remembered by colleagues and residents alike for his dedication, kindness and willingness to help others. I would like to extend our sincere condolences to Terry's family, friends and all those who knew him at this difficult time."

Beyond his contribution to local government, Terry was a proud Daventry resident who cared deeply about his community. Having moved to the town with his family in the 1950s, he spent much of his life supporting local people both through public service and community involvement. He volunteered within grassroots football and coached for many years at Drayton Grange Football Club, helping to inspire and support young players. Colleagues, friends and residents will remember him for his warmth, determination and willingness to help others, as well as his unwavering commitment to the town he loved.

He understood the importance of local government and worked hard to ensure the views of residents were heard and reflected in the decisions being made.
