Fourth week of action shines a light on serious violence

It’s Northamptonshire Police’s fourth #MatterOfPriority week of action and this time, the spotlight is shining on serious violence.

Led by Chief Inspector Julie Mead, and in partnership with the county’s Community Safety Partnership, the week will be a mix of awareness raising, prevention work, community engagement and enforcement activity.

Chief Inspector Mead, said: “Serious violence is an issue, not only in Northamptonshire, but across the whole country as well.

“That’s why tackling it is one of only four matters of priority for this Force and I have a huge amount planned this week to show the public all the work we are doing to make our communities safer.”

During the week of action, various enforcement operations are planned as well as more preventative work including knife amnesties, robbery prevention measures set up in hotspot areas across the county, community engagement events and the beat bus on patrol.

The Emergency Services Cadets will also be back with their daily priority pledges which will focus on a different topic every day to highlight the dangers of things like knives and fights on nights’ out.

Chief Inspector Mead will also be a guest speaker at the women’s forum in Northampton on Tuesday (July 26) in which she will talk more about the #CutItOut scheme which encourages hairdressers and people in the beauty industry to be on the lookout for domestic violence.

Chief Inspector Mead continued: “One of the other things I’m really excited about during this week of action are talking about the bleed kits, an initiative created by Wellingborough based charity - Off the Streets, which sees numerous kits installed across the county which can be used by people in the event of a major incident in which someone has a serious bleed.”

This week is the fourth in a twelve-week surge to tackle Northamptonshire Police’s four matters of priority - violence against women and girls, drug harm, serious and organised crime and serious violence.

Chief Inspector Mead added: “Finally, though lots of work will be taking place this week, I would also like to take this opportunity to ask that any members of the public who may have information relating to serious violence in their community, to contact us. Your community intelligence could be vital and will allow us to build up a bigger picture of what is going on in our county and where we need to focus our resources in the future.”
