A 36-year-old man has been jailed for life after murdering his wife at their family home in Burton Latimer while their two young daughters were asleep.
Paul Knight was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court on 29 January 2026 after admitting the murder of his wife, 32-year-old Isobella “Izzy” Knight, on 13 June 2025.
He was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 17 years and one month before he can be considered for release.
The court heard that the couple's marriage had been breaking down, with Izzy telling friends that her husband had treated her badly. She had twice told Knight that she wanted a divorce before they reconciled.
However, by the time of her death, Izzy had decided to end the marriage. The couple were sleeping in separate bedrooms, and she had been looking at properties on Rightmove as she planned a new life.
Knight strangled his wife inside their home in Donnington Road while their two daughters slept in another room.
The court heard that Knight had a serious addiction to cocaine, which had contributed to persistent financial difficulties within the marriage. He had consumed cocaine and watched pornography both before and after the killing.
The following morning, Knight contacted his mother and asked her to look after the children, claiming that he and Izzy were unwell.
After the children had been collected, he made unsuccessful attempts to take his own life before driving away from the property and crashing his car in the car park of a nearby McDonald's restaurant.
Police officers attending the collision became suspicious of Knight's behaviour and decided to search his home.
Officers discovered Izzy's body inside the property, along with a suicide note written by Knight in which he admitted killing his wife and blamed his cocaine addiction and financial problems.
Knight was arrested and subsequently charged with murder.
Although he initially denied murdering Izzy, he changed his plea to guilty during a hearing at Northampton Crown Court on 8 January 2026.
Following his sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Torie Harrison, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team, said:
"No sentence will ever make up for the loss of such a wonderful woman, but I am pleased that Paul Knight has been jailed with no hope of release until he is in his 50s.
"This is an absolutely tragic case of violence against a woman who had so many good things ahead of her. She was an amazing mum, much-loved by her family and friends, and did everything she could to live life to its fullest.
"Her life has been cut short in the most dreadful and unfair circumstances, and my thoughts will remain with everyone who loved her for a long time to come."
Izzy's death has left two young daughters without their mother and a family mourning the loss of a much-loved woman whose plans for the future were tragically cut short.
