Fire crews attended the scene after a blaze at a pub with a thatched roof in Newton Longville.
Two crews from West Ashland, one crew from Broughton, one crew from Buckingham and one crew from Aylesbury, along with a turntable ladder from West Ashland and a water carrier from Broughton, attended a chimney fire at the Crooked Billett pub in Newton Longville that broke out around 6pm yesterday (27/10).
Firefighters used two hose reel jets, chimney firefighting equipment, a turntable ladder and a thermal imaging camera to tackle a fire within a chimney stack at the thatched-roof property. The fire had not spread to the thatch.
Crews worked quickly to contain the fire and prevent it extending into the roof space. Regular temperature monitoring was carried out throughout the incident to ensure there was no hidden fire spread.
A reinspection was completed later that evening, with further thermal imaging checks confirming that all areas had cooled and there were no signs of re-ignition.
The operators of the pub confirmed on social media that the fire had broken out and voiced their gratitude to the fire service for helping to control the situation.
In a statement on Instagram, the Crooked Billet said, “We suffered a fire in the top of one of our chimneys last evening. As you can imagine, with a thatched roof, we keep our chimneys well swept, and last evenings incident looks like caused by an issue with the chimney liner. .There was no property damage, and no one was hurt, so once the engineers and contractors have rectified the issues, we can relight our fire!
“Thank you, in particular, to our staff, customers and friends who were in the bar when we got smoked out; we appreciated your understanding and concern. Gotta say, the fire crews were SO fast and fantastic whilst they were here.
“Very grateful that it was all sorted so fast with minimal damage. Cheers from The Billet Team.”
