Luton Town made it four wins in a row as they beat Peterborough United 2-0 at the Weston Homes Stadium.
An early goal in each half got the job done for Jack Wilshere’s side, with Jordan Clark scoring in the opening stages of the first half and an own goal by Peterborough’s Liam Kelly in the opening minute of the second half doing the job for the Hatters.
Victory saw the Hatters grab another win to follow up three wins in a row at home, with the result elevating Luton further up the table as the side move to 4th place in the third tier table.
The visitors made a rapid start in Cambridgeshire when they took the lead after three minutes. Palmer got a through-pass precise to set away Clark, who duly got a shot through the legs of Peterborough keeper Alex Bass and found the back of the net.
Much of the first half was a tight contest with few opportunities but Peterborough spurned perhaps the best opportunity of the rest of the half, as Luton couldn’t clear their lines from a free-kick and Harry Leonard thumped an effort off the crossbar.
Within a minute of the second half starting, Luton extended their lead to 2-0. Palmer got space to charge down the left flank and his cross ended up bouncing off Kelly and into the back of the net for an own goal by the Posh midfielder.
Peterborough nearly reduced the deficit quickly after that second goal, with Ethan Williams seeing an effort blocked on the line by Posh defender Mads Andersen.
A lot of the game’s better opportunities were falling the way of Posh, with James Shea making big saves to deny Brandon Khela, Matt Garbutt and Leonard to preserve his clean sheet.
Luton would come close a late third as Joe Johnson had an effort blocked on the line and Jamie Donley had a strike denied by Bass at the end of stoppage time, but there was no way back for Peterborough as Luton got the job done.
The Hatters will be chasing a fifth win in a row next time out when they make the visit to league leaders Huddersfield Town next time out.
