Upcoming works to manage the flow of surface water and rainfall entering into the local drainage system will impact users of Commercial Street car park.
The works will run from 9 November until late January and will require the temporary loss of car parking spaces for worker welfare facilities and material storage.
Commercial Street car park has 250 spaces and up to 43 spaces will be temporarily unavailable during the works. No disabled spaces will be affected. The works will be carried out in phases to minimise the number of spaces temporarily unavailable and accommodate the busy Christmas shopping period:
9 November to 15 November – 22 parking spaces temporarily unavailable
16 November to 6 December – 43 spaces unavailable
7 December to 3 January – all spaces will be reinstated to accommodate the busy Christmas shopping period
4 January to 24 January – 33 spaces unavailable No car park entrance or exit will be affected by the works and there will be signage around the site to help motorists and pedestrians during the working periods.
Cllr John Slope, Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources said: “These works will improve how surface water and rainfall drain into the local network, particularly during heavy rain, and are needed to support the delivery of much-needed temporary accommodation nearby.
“We’ve phased the works to keep disruption to a minimum, and every space will be back in use from 7 December to 3 January for the Christmas shopping period. No disabled spaces, entrances or exits are affected.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank residents, businesses and motorists for their patience.”
