A dedicated volunteer from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service has been recognised at a national level after receiving the National Fire Chiefs Council Volunteers Award.
Scott Fitzsimmons, who volunteers as a Community Safety Advocate, received the award in the latest National Fire Chiefs Council’s (NFCC) Celebrating Prevention Awards after being nominated by colleagues for his dedication and contribution to Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The NFCC Volunteers Award highlights the critical role volunteers play within fire and rescue services across the country, supporting prevention initiatives that reduce risk and save lives.
Since 2021, Scott has volunteered hundreds of hours a year and has played a vital role in delivering prevention messages such as fire safety, road safety and water safety at community engagements and open days across Northamptonshire.
During his time as a volunteer, Scott has also given his time to help with essential movements of specialist vehicles, equipment and even firefighters across the county so they have been in place to help protect our communities and keep them safe.
Scott said on receiving his award: “I wanted to be a volunteer so I could help the community and I’m glad my contribution has been meaningful. I’ve enjoyed every safety event, and the work has been very rewarding.
“I want to thank Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service for all the support I have received, and for putting me forward for this award.”
Chief Fire Officer Nikki Watson, who presented Scott with the award, praised Scott’s contribution to Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service.
She said: “Scott has shown an amazing commitment and dedication to our organisation, and he is a valued member of our team.
“Volunteers like Scott are an essential part of the work we do to protect our communities and I am delighted he has been recognised for his efforts. It was a pleasure to present him this award.”
Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue service is grateful for the dedication of its volunteers like Scott to help with the delivery of community safety, and this award reflects the exceptional impact of his work.
