Everdon Outdoor Learning Centre, based in the village of Everdon, has been awarded the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge, gaining national recognition for the high standard of its educational visits.
The LOtC Quality Badge is the only national scheme that recognises both the quality of learning experiences and the effectiveness of risk management. It is awarded by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (CLOtC) and is held by some of the UK’s leading providers of educational visits. The badge is also endorsed by the Department for Education (DfE) and recommended by the Outdoor Education Advisers’ Panel Cymru as a mark of excellence for schools planning trips and visits.
"We are delighted that Everdon Outdoor Learning Centre has achieved this prestigious recognition. It highlights the centre’s commitment to providing safe, engaging, and high-quality learning experiences that inspire children and help them connect with the world around them."Cllr Nigel Stansfield, Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling and Waste at WNC
The centre offers a wide range of hands-on activities designed to engage children with the natural world and develop important life skills. Visitors can take part in bushcraft and survival skills sessions that teach teamwork and resilience or enjoy orienteering and navigation challenges to build confidence and independence.
The centre also offers nature exploration and wildlife studies to spark curiosity about ecology, along with team challenges and adventure activities to promote collaboration and leadership. Science-based activities, both on land and in water, link practical learning to the classroom curriculum, giving children a fully immersive and memorable educational experience.
“Educational visits are among the most memorable experiences in a child’s school life. The LOtC Quality Badge offers teachers the reassurance that the venue is providing high quality educational experiences and has the appropriate risk management structures in place, meaning less paperwork for schools and peace of mind for teachers. I congratulate Everdon Outdoor Learning Centre on being awarded the LOtC Quality Badge.”Dr Anne Hunt, Chief Executive of CLOtC
The LOtC Quality Badge signals to schools that providers have met a set of Quality Indicators, making it easier for teachers to choose trusted venues for educational trips without needing to carry out their own risk or quality assessments, beyond those specific to the needs of their students.
