Witnesses are being sought following a fatal road traffic collision between Junction 17 and the Watford Gap Services on the southbound carriageway of the M1.
At about 3.20am on Monday, July 18, a silver Toyota Previa has collided with the rear of a stationary grey Mercedes car, which is believed to have broken down in lane one.
The driver of the Mercedes car – a man in his 40s from Bedfordshire – was standing at the rear of the vehicle and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Whilst his four passengers were all treated for minor injuries, along with the driver of the Toyota.
The southbound carriageway between Junctions 18 and 16 and the northbound carriageway between Junctions 16 and 18, were closed to allow for the emergency services to deal with the incident. Both are now re-opened.
Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have dash-cam footage of the actual collision or the vehicle prior to the incident.
