A late strike from Sam Nombe saw MK Dons beat Stevenage at the SPORTa Arena.
Nombe’s first goal since returning to the Dons came in the final 10 minutes of a tight encounter played in heavy rain in Hertfordshire and would prove to be enough as Paul Warne’s side grabbed their first away win of the new season.
Victory would be enough lift the Dons up a few places in the developing league table, with MK Dons now 18th after the first 11 games of the season with a game in hand on some of the teams around them.
Having suffered defeat at Blackpool in midweek, the Dons arrived in a wet Stevenage chasing their first away win of the campaign.
A tight game saw several chances come and go along the way. Jack Sanders would see one effort go off target and another well saved by Stevenage keeper Tommy Setford.
Dan Phillips and Louis Thompson fired efforts just wide while Ben Broggio saw a strike deflected onto the post and Josh Magennis’ effort was denied by Will Dennis.
The Dons had opportunities after half-time, with Collins twice denied by Setford and Ryan Wintle seeing an effort strike both posts but not cross the line.
The game’s only goal would come after 81 minutes, as Dan Crowley blocked Dan Phillips’ attempted clearance and the ball fell for Aaron Collins, who chipped the ball across goal for Nombe to head home.
Terence Vancooten would hook an effort off target in the final stages as the hosts tried to find an equaliser, but Stevenage would run out of time as MK Dons took their victory.
MK Dons will be aiming to grab back-to-back wins for this season on Tuesday when they host fellow new boys Bromley at Stadium MK.
