Northampton Town were the winners at Sixfields as they beat Colchester United 2-0 to make it two wins in three outings.
Goals in the early stages of each half by Matty Warhurst and Sam Hoskins did the job for the Cobblers, who bounced back from a midweek reverse against Tranmere Rovers to return to winning ways.
Three points were enough to lift the Cobblers out of the League Two relegation zone, with Chris Hogg’s side moving up to 19th place in the table.
In front of representatives of the club’s new majority owners, Northampton got off to a bright start as they scored after nine minutes. Lee Evans’ cross picked out Warhurst, who got the touch to send the ball past the reach of Colchester keeper Thimothee Lo-Tutala.
A good chance fell the Essex club’s way quickly afterwards, as former Cobbler Ben Perry got the ball in a good position but couldn’t beat home keeper Zach Jeacock.
Colchester’s Bradley Ihionvien missed a good chance to level when he headed wide later in the first half, while Lo-Tutala would deny Northampton’s Joe Wormleighton in the final stages of the first half.
But the game’s second goal would be for Northampton, with Hoskins grabbing his first goal of the season as he received Dale’s cross and flicked the ball home.
Northampton would have opportunities for a third, with Connor Lemonheigh-Evans seeing a drive bounce off the post before Dale hit a strike wide and Lo-Tutala denied Elliot List.
But victory would be there for Northampton as they managed a first home win since beating Newport in early September.
The Cobblers’ next assignment takes place next Saturday when they visit Accrington Stanley.
