#16 What does it mean to be a Mindful Black Dad? - Before Our Friends Die

It takes a village to raise a child, isn't that right? Today, we feature a fantastic guest Eli, from @mindfulblackdad on Instagram. He popped on our radar after we saw a viral clip of him discussing a book about colours at his Son's nursey. The book depicted Black as scary, mean, bad etc and it led his son to not want to be Black anymore. He knew he had to do something but was stuck on how to approach it.
This conversation is our most open and candid yet. At the time of writing, neither of us at the akhi&saltfish Digital Network are parents but we were curious to get Eli's views on being a parent of two boys and share our own reflections of our upbringing, including what we would bring with us from how we were parented and what we would leave behind.
A fascinating discussion that touches on all sorts including, should we even use the term "Black" to describe ourselves? How do you navigate The Royal Family? When do you address the elephant in the room on race? And so so much more.
