David Walliams has really picked up the baton of edgy kid fiction with a warm heart from Roald Dahl and his stories are perfect for bringing to life on stage with great success for Gangsta Granny and Billionaire Boy which were both nominated for Olivier Awards.
The title of the story should warn you that Demon Dentist is not for the faint hearted - there's some disturbing scenes of dentistry which would make even the Mums and Dads cringe.
Alfie (Sam Varley) and his 'not a girlfriend' Gabz (Georgia Grant-Anderson) set out to investigate the strange events happening in their town as children leave their teeth for the tooth fairy and wake up to discover horrific things have been left under their pillows - like a dog's tail, a dead frog and an eyeball!
And when a scary new dentist arrives in town - the terrifying Miss Root (played briliantly by Emily Harrigan), things take a dark turn as Alfie discovers first hand the true horror of the demon dentist....
With pacey staging, songs and dances, this show held the attention of my two year old, although there's plenty to gross out older kids who were really engaging with the show, with plenty of gasping and screaming during the gory moments.
There's great performances from all the lead actors especially James Mitchell as Alfie's wheelchair-using Dad, Zain Abrahams as newsagent Raj and Misha Malcolm as social worker Winnie who bring a genuine warmth to their characters and a very funny script which makes this a great show for all ages, even the very youngest.
